CSI:Humboldt – Know Your Breeder
CSI:Humboldt also known as “The Inspecta” (Not to be confused with Humboldt Seed Co or Humboldt Seed Organization) is an excellent example of someone who spends more time on his work than his marketing. Despite the fact that many South African and even international growers may not know his name or the work he does, what he has done over the years is something that has earned him revered respect among many of America’s greatest breeders.
Given the fact that Humboldt is an area rich in cannabis cultivation history, it’s not surprising to see several breeders using the locality in their branding, but this has caused a lot of confusion, especially for newer growers who are just getting into buying seeds. I’ve personally assisted a number of local clients over the years who got Humboldt Seed Org and Humboldt Seed Co muddled up. More recently I’ve also chatted with a few individuals who thought CSI:Humboldt is one of the others as well.
What separates CSI:Humboldt from a lot of cannabis breeders is the integrity of his breeding process. While many companies like to throw out freebies for crowd-sourced testing (with detrimental results at times), CSI runs through his own gear, making sure that what he releases passes the tests required. This is a practice that many growers assume is obvious, but you’d be surprised by how few breeders actually work their lines or test in any capacity.

Here at LOUDcpt, we’re not shy to state that we view CSI:Humboldt as a better breeder than other Humboldt variants, most particularly for his work in preserving hard-to-find cuts. In fact, the preservation of elite genetics through S1 seed production is one of the reasons why the community has a such strong respect for his work. While many breeders are focused solely on creating the next hype that comes and goes without much longevity, The Inspecta has poured hundreds, if not thousands of hours into the preservation of genetics which have stood the test of time.
In turn, you’ll see strains like Chem 91, Trainwreck, UK Cheese, and more offered as S1 feminized seeds. These are all strains that are clone-only elites, which are best preserved as S1s, where you can retain the gene pool by crossing them with themselves.
With all that said, CSI:Humboldt is far from just a preservation breeder. Some of his hybrid work became the source of what later become other elite cuts. The Obama Kush cut was selected from a pack of Mendo Purps x Bubba Kush bred by CSI. The concept of elite cuts is still foreign to some, especially here in South Africa – but elites aren’t easy to get hold of, and while there’s a lot of breeders out there claiming to have cuts they don’t, that isn’t something you need to worry about with CSI’s gear.

If you’re a fan of chem, his Chem D crosses are guaranteed to bring that heavy funk. Chem D is another cut that is rarer than people think solely due to the number of fake claims out there. So if you’re looking for the real thing, look no further.
It’s easy to make claims about a breeder, it’s easy to fake the funk for the sake of marketing. Around here, we feel the best form of marketing is stocking gear that we won’t have to worry about recommending, and CSI:Humboldt is someone we can certainly recommend.
Caleb (csi) is the man and if you go directly through him at his site he always hooks me up. Csi is one of the top breeders in my stash and I have a dorm style fridge full of gear from the past 20 years I’ve payed for myself.
